Vlad Tenev left Bulgaria as a child, studied mathematics, and later co-founded Robinhood.

During Bulgaria's financial crisis, Vlad's grandfather exchanged income for copper cookware because it held value better than the lev. Vlad later connected that memory to Robinhood's mission.

Mathematics led to market structure.

At Stanford, Vlad studied mathematics and met Baiju Bhatt. Together they built trading software before asking why ordinary investors paid for access.

Robinhood made access visible.

Robinhood turned that question into a product: a brokerage on a phone, with no trading commission and no account minimum.
